Find A Park
We just found out today that Melbourne City Council has put in sensors under every park to alert parking inspectors to when you’ve overstayed (http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/sensors-to-create-parkingfine-windfall-20110420-1doeq.html ). But why not use that data for good!
The sensors can be used in reverse to see if a car park is free. Using this data and a google api, it’s a quick win. What a great way to spin the negativity around for Melbourne City Council.

It’s a prototype iPhone app in which it uses a GPS search to find which area of Melbourne City Council to load the first set of free parks.
Not in the area? Do an advanced search, using the intelligent autofiller search it will quickly find the street name or suburb you are entering. There is also the option to select the hour of park needed and whether to select a clearway zone (for those parking outside of peak).
There is also the ability to promote paid parking outlets using this app, allowing it to be of commercial value to Melbourne City Council.
